The focus is put on landscape-analysis and landscape-visualization. Sweden possesses a unique and vast collection of historical maps - a material being produced since the 17th century when the Swedish survey started. Since the beginning of this century Swedish geographers has been using this material in order to acquire knowledge of the historical landscape. The research concerning the cultural landscape carried out at the department of Human Geography, is to a great extent based on these sources, is top ranked, both in a domestic perspective, as well as internationally. Modern techniques and methods within the field of geographic data processing and digital cartography is an integrated and important part of this work. Another important field of work is landscape visualization. This involves the use of advanced methods and techniques concerning 3-dimensional modeling, animation, and digital video.
