Title of degree and main field of study

The main field of study in a degree depends on the specialization within the programme. There are three possible main fields of study: Economic History, Geography and International Relations. See the page on degree projects for more information.

In the final semester you are registered for the thesis in the department in charge of your main field of study (regardless of your previous bachelor degree). You will have a principal supervisor in that department and possibly a second supervisor from another department. The thesis supervision in Economic History is provided by the Department of Economic History. In Geography supervision is offered by the Department of Human Geography as well as the Department of Physical Geography; the title of qualification and the main field of study are identical regardless in what geographical department you prefer to produce your thesis. International Relations is supervised by the Department of Economic History.

Degree certificate

The degree certificate shows the title of the degree, the main field of study, which courses are included (course names, number of credits, grades and dates), and states that the courses are part of the Master’s Programme in Globalization, Environment and Social Change. The certificate is written in Swedish and English.

The degree is awarded by Stockholm University according to the 2007 Swedish Higher Education Authority Degree Ordinance.

Together with the certificate you will receive a Diploma Supplement in English. The purpose of the supplement is to provide sufficient independent data to improve international transparency and fair academic and professional recognition of qualifications (degrees etc.). It is designed to provide a description of the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies that were pursued and successfully completed. The Diploma Supplement follows a model regulated by the Swedish Higher Education Authority and developed by the European Commission, the Council of Europe and the UNESCO-CEPES.

Degree certificates are not issued automatically, but at the request of the individual graduate concerned. Once you complete your studies you need to submit the degree certificate order form (along with the necessary attachments) to the Academic Records Unit at Student Services, Stockholm University. The certificate is free of charge.
